Speaking at the event, CEO Tim Cook expressed his belief in the profound potential of augmented reality, asserting that Vision Pro would introduce users to entirely new dimensions of “spatial computing.” He drew parallels between the impact of Vision Pro and the transformative influence of the iPhone, which brought smartphones into the lives of millions.
With decades of Apple’s design prowess behind it, Vision Pro emerges as a visionary product, boasting an advanced user experience and exciting opportunity to explore virtual environments.
Lights, Camera, Action: New momentum for mixed reality
The intuitive navigation system for VisionPro has eliminated the new for external controllers, something that the gamers of the world are familiar with but the general public would not appreciate. Another feature outlined in EyeSight that displays the users eyes to others in augmented reality mode, facilitating deeper connections with those around them.
When in fully immersive VR mode, the screen becomes opaque to the outside world. Additionally, the headset includes Apple’s first-ever 3D camera, enabling users to capture spatial video and photos.
FOMO is second nature to Apple
If there is anything that Apple as a brand knows how to do, it is to create a fear of missing out. Apple advocates, Tim Cook followers and design enthusiasts were quick to respond with support and adoration for the new headset.

True to Apple’s commitment to delivering the highest quality design, Vision Pro offers ultra-high resolution, surpassing even that of a 4K TV. With 23 million pixels across two displays, the headset ensures a visual feast for the eyes.
Apple has also engineered a newly designed spatial-audio system to complement the extraordinary visual experience. According to the company, Vision Pro will redefine the way users interact with their favorite apps, enabling them to capture and relive memories, enjoy stunning TV shows and movies.
Disney CEO Bob Iger hailed the platform as revolutionary, emphasizing the ability to create deeply immersive stories that would be unimaginable without this new technology.made an appearance during the Vision Pro launch.
The headset boasts an impressive array of 12 cameras, five sensors, and six microphones, meticulously engineered to create an immersive experience that appears right before the user’s eyes in real-time.
The only critique that kept cropping up in social circles was the tethered battery pack that doesn’t quite fit with the sleek design.
Is the Metaverse going mainstream?
This is one crucial question still on everyones lips. According to a recent McKinsey report the metaverse could be valued at $5 trillion by 2030. Apple’s substantial investment in virtual infrastructure has made this a little bit more tangible. The journey with their mixed reality headset has taken seven years to come to fruition and the company anticipated selling 900k VR headsets in the first year.
Apple’s foray into the world of VR and mixed reality has been a seven-year journey, marking its first new product category since the successful launch of the Apple Watch in 2015. Bloomberg reported that the company anticipates selling 900,000 VR headsets in the first year alone.
Furthermore, Apple has integrated support for the Unity game engine, ensuring that 3D apps developed with Unity can seamlessly transition to the Vision Pro platform.
Just days before Apple’s VR announcement, Meta unveiled the Meta Quest 3, the next generation of its VR headset. Priced at $500 and set to ship in the fall of 2023, Meta aims to carve out its place in the VR market.
Historically, virtual reality has primarily gained traction in the gaming realm. However, according to market research firm IDC, VR and AR headset sales experienced a 21% decline from 11.2 million units to 8.8 million units in 2022. Meta’s Quest currently holds approximately 80% of the market share. The drop is attributed to factors such as limited vendors, challenging macro-economic conditions, and a lack of widespread consumer adoption.
With creators and brands embracing decentralised metaverse platforms as unique ways to connect with their audiences and Beijing focused on the opportunities of the metaverse, it appears the metaverse is remaining a priority in the longer term vision of innovators using emerging technology.
As the barriers between the virtual and physical worlds continue to blur, Apple’s ambitious venture stands ready to reshape the way we interact, create, and explore.
