The global pandemic forced all in-person event producers to rethink their approach and that includes independant film premieres. Innovative creators have seized the opportunity to push the boundaries of virtual storytelling, creating an experience that transcends geographical limitations and fosters a sense of community in an increasingly isolated world.
When traditional movie theaters were shut down, indie film makers began making their way into the metaverse, carving out a niche that opens doors to new film buffs and new revenue streams.
For experienced Film writer and Director Brian McGuire the stories and lores in and around crypto are wild and cinematic. Some may say too good to ignore. Shot before the pandemic, Rabbit Hole is his 8th feature film and was born out of his obsession with the crypto descendants.
“I feel like the main character who is played by, me, is meant to represent every one of us who has gotten into crypto and had no idea what we were doing. It is a wickedly fun film. I like to think RABBIT HOLE is the middle child in a family with The Big Lebowski and Pie by Darren.”
McGuires goal was to open up the first movie theatre in the metaverse. Upland saw potential in this dream.
“Upland reached out to me not to long ago and asked me if i was still interested in running a movie theater and i said yes indeed! I am lining up some great movies to screen in the theater, and i am working with a distribution company called INDIE RIGHTS who is going to help fill the screens with amazing indie films!! Plus we are going to do many other events out of the LeftHouse Theater. I hope you like to dance!!
What sets this premiere apart is its immersive nature. Unlike the standard events McGuires Lefthouse Movie Theatre in Upland is a multi-dimensional experience that mirrors the excitement and glamour of a traditional Hollywood premiere.
A new set of tools for Film Makers
As creators, blockchain technology and NFT’s have opened up doors to new channels of distribution and revenue streams.
“Not only do i think metaverse theaters are good for film and the creators, I think the blockchain and all of the tools that the blockchain has to offer can and will change the film industries.”
“Movies in the main stream have gotten so bad, boring, and formulaic, it is time for another indie filmmaking boom. And with also the New AI tools, with blockchain, the creative as well as the Buisness side will see major needed change,” notes McGuire.
The impact of virtual premieres extends beyond mere novelty. As traditional distribution channels face uncertainty, indie filmmakers are exploring alternative avenues for revenue generation.
The Business of Film re-imagined
By embracing VR technology, they can reach a global audience without the need for physical theaters or costly promotional campaigns.
As the entertainment landscape continues to evolve, virtual premieres may emerge as the new standard for film releases. By blending the magic of cinema with the interactivity of gaming, indie filmmakers can forge deeper connections with their audience and transform the way we experience storytelling.
McGuire would encourage all filmmakers to use this new set of tools and get in on the metaverse action, “If I had the blockchain and metaverse theater access when i first satarted making film, i would have been the happiest filmmaker alive.”
Rabbit Hole premieres in the Upland Metaverse on March 18 7pm PST
