#16) Why We Must Highlight Women in Leadership – Especially in Web3

Week 16 – Karina Abramova, Founder, Sunrose Wellbeing

As Web3 continues to redefine the architecture of the internet, finance, and governance, it brings with it the rare opportunity to rebuild systems from the ground up. But if we are to build better, fairer, more inclusive systems, we must actively spotlight, and support, women in leadership roles.

Historically underrepresented in both tech and finance, women leaders bring diverse perspectives, collaborative approaches, and often values-driven leadership that prioritizes long-term sustainability over short-term gain. In Web3, where decentralized decision-making, community building, and innovation are core tenets, this diversity of style is very welcome if not essential.

Leadership isn’t monolithic. While traditional models have often emphasized hierarchy, competition, and control, many women leaders bring alternative approaches: participatory, empathetic, consensus-driven, or mentorship-focused. These styles align naturally with the ethos of decentralization and trustless systems, offering a counterbalance to purely technocratic or profit-led strategies.

By highlighting women in Web3 leadership, founders, developers, policymakers, and community builders, we not only correct representation gaps but also signal to the next generation that there is no single path to power. Visibility shapes possibility. And in a space as fast-moving and foundational as Web3, ensuring a plurality of voices isn’t just ethical, it’s strategic.

And so we are going to bring you some of the most inspiring women in Web3 and explore how and why they think as they do.

Week 16: Karina Abramova – Leading with Heart in Web3

Karina Abramova wears many hats: founder of Sunrose Wellbeing, conscious leadership guide, healing arts facilitator, and nature creative. Her work sits at the intersection of technology, inner health, and global purpose. For Abramova, the path to leadership in Web3 is not through hustle alone, but through balance and a firm commitment to wellbeing.

“Inner health is the most important factor in this work,” she says. “I saw time and again the toll that ‘crypto that never sleeps’ takes on people, more so than traditional business environments.” While Web3 promises decentralisation and opportunity, Abramova is clear-eyed about its current dynamics. “Often, across various industries, there is a veneer of creation of opportunities… but if we look deep down at financial flows, who makes decisions, the leadership in top projects, we still see a major gap just as we still see a pay gap.”

That gap, she believes, won’t close unless we change the story we’re telling ourselves. “People – men – support female empowerment as long as women stay weak. Because a powerful woman is inconvenient, uncontrollable, and free.”

Abramova credits her grounding in spiritual and self-development communities as key to navigating the pressures of Web3. “Getting reality checks, as well as getting outside, were healthy for me and allowed me to put the expectations and dynamics of this industry into perspective.”

Looking ahead, she calls for more spaces that value mental health, wellbeing, and impact-driven innovation. She’s most inspired by women building solutions in education, environment, and mental health — not just chasing profits, but serving purpose.

Karina Abramova’s Three Tips for Women in Web3 Leadership:

  • Stay human, lead with your heart; technology is only one side of the global story we are living
  • Find sisterhood support — outside of the industry too
  • Get outside; balance the tech with nature
