Web3 Foundation Launches $45M USD Program to Drive Polkadot Growth

The Web3 Foundation, spearheading the innovative Polkadot blockchain protocol, has unveiled its initiative, the Decentralized Futures Program.

This ambitious program, funded by an impressive 20M USD and 5M DOT (Polkadot’s native cryptocurrency), marks a significant investment of over $45M USD set to be distributed throughout 2024.

The Decentralized Futures Program is a pivotal component of Web3 Foundation’s mission to empower the Polkadot community in steering the decentralized development of the Polkadot ecosystem.

Teams and individuals eager to catalyze ambitious projects driving the growth of Polkadot are invited to apply for funding through the program, demonstrating the foundation’s commitment to cultivating the next wave of innovation in web3.

In a press release today Fabian Gompf, CEO of Web3 Foundation, expressed the foundation’s deep conviction in the strength of its community, stating, “The Decentralized Futures Program doubles down on this belief, allocating sizeable investments and grants that can accelerate the growth of decentralized technologies.” Gompf emphasized the program’s role in relinquishing control from centralized entities, allowing the diverse capabilities of the community to shape the protocol’s development.

The Decentralized Futures Program is open to teams and individuals of all sizes, backgrounds, and disciplines, fostering inclusivity across the ecosystem.

Eligible projects include those focused on developer experience, marketing, community events, ecosystem development, common good parachains, and infrastructure. The foundation underscores that funding will be awarded to projects demonstrating the potential to scale to self-sufficiency.

The Web3 Foundation’s grant program has already processed over 1,000 payments in funding.

This launch follows the recent appointment of Fabian Gompf as CEO of the Web3 Foundation, bringing with him a wealth of experience from his previous role as VP of Ecosystem Development at Parity Technologies, where he played a pivotal role in the inception of the Polkadot network until 2022.
