The Vatican Library is taking a step towards the future of archiving by using non-fungible tokens (NFTs) with the help of global technology services provider NTT DATA.
NTT DATA’s “AMLAD” has been collaborating with the Vatican Library since 2014 for digital archive of a documentary collection consisting of about 1.6 million printed books, 80,000 manuscripts, 300,000 coins and medals, and 150,000 prints and drawings.
The two organizations have collaborated to digitize the library’s extensive collection of cultural assets using their advanced “AMLAD” digital archiving solution since 2014.
Vatican Web3 Support Project
They have launched the Vatican Library Web3 Support Project, an initiative that uses blockchain technology to connect the library with supporters worldwide.
The project offers supporters NFTs as rewards for sharing the initiative on social media or showing their support for the Vatican Library. These NFTs provide access to high-resolution images of 15 cultural heritage items owned by the library, along with explanatory texts created specifically for the project.
The library’s collection includes 1.6 million printed books, 80,000 manuscripts, 300,000 coins and medals, and 150,000 prints and drawings. The Web3 project is a collaboration between NTT DATA’s advanced “AMLAD” digital archiving solution and the Vatican Library.
