Metaverse Land Sales Reach New All time high with $311 million in Trading Volume.

Virtual world trading spiked in the first quarter of 2023 with 147,000 trades generating $311 million in volume, according to a new report by DappRadar.

A DappRadar report released on Thursday stated that the trading of Non-fungible tokens (NFTs) has surged in virtual worlds during the first quarter of 2023, amounting to $311 million in total sales. The report also highlighted that the trading of virtual land reached an unprecedented peak during the last quarter, with 147,000 transactions recorded, primarily driven by Yuga Labs’ Otherside and MG Land platforms. Yuga Lab’s Otherside has been credited by DappRadar for the majority of the record-breaking sales volume in the NFT market, with $222 million in trading volume and a 237% increase from the previous quarter. This surge in market activity followed the announcement of Yuga Lab’s “Second Trip” into the Otherside, which is set to provide a new look at the upcoming metaverse on March 25. Blur’s NFT platform has also contributed to the high trading volume, with its previous airdrop injecting hundreds of millions of dollars into the NFT ecosystem. To qualify for Blur’s next round of airdrops, traders must bid on collections and list NFTs close to project floors, resulting in significant market activity.

Blockchain Gaming and Metaverse 

Blockchain gaming and metaverse projects have attracted significant investments in recent years, with $3.7 billion invested in 2021 and $7.6 billion in 2022. The industry has started strong in Q1 of 2023, with $502 million invested in blockchain gaming and metaverse projects. 

Notably, these projects received 32.7% of the total investments, while infrastructure projects received 31.5%, and investment firms secured 24%. Digital fashion and avatars have been a key area of investment, with DressX raising $15 million to improve its app and NFT marketplace. 

The trend of purchasing clothes for social media posts is contributing to the rise of digital fashion, which is predicted to be worth $50 billion by 2030. Another significant development in the industry is the development of a payment system for digital economies in games and the metaverse. 

A Virtual Future on the Horizon 

The trading of virtual land is part of a growing trend that has seen massive inwards investments with more than $7.6 billion invested in 2022. Up from $3.7 billion in 2021. Despite concerns in the overall world of technology as mass layoffs continue to make the headlines around the world, the usage of virtual worlds to discover new commercial opportunities is only beginning.
