Kayne Brennan: Building Technology That Protects

Kayne Brennan describes himself as a geek, but that understates both the breadth of his technical ability and the depth of his motivation. He is the self-taught technologist now serving as CTO of Entry, and across his career one pattern repeats: he builds because he cares, not because he must. His journey, which began with dismantling computers as a child and now sits at the intersection of blockchain, AI, and digital identity, is a study in curiosity sharpened into capability.

“I was obsessed with computers,” he says. “At a young age I was building them at thirteen or fourteen, taking them apart, learning everything I could.” In school IT classes he would stand up and teach other students how to do things. He moved easily from Amstrads and Commodore 64s to early programming languages, learning Visual Basic at a time when most students were still discovering PowerPoint. He designed robots in college, writing the code for them himself. If a device could be pulled apart and reassembled, he wanted to do it.

But Brennan’s route was not academic. He did not enjoy college, did not go to university, and instead left London to DJ in Ibiza. Even there, technology followed him. At a time before YouTube and before the commonplace availability of streaming, he was teaching himself Dreamweaver and Flash so he could build his own website, upload music, and share videos from his shows. “I got a bug for it,” he says. “I just really got a bug for it.”

From there came PHP, WordPress, JavaScript frameworks, React, Next.js, each adopted early and learned deeply. Brennan founded an agency in 2013, building websites and web applications for clients across London’s startup ecosystem. His outgoing personality, unusual in a developer, led him into collaborations, co-founding roles, and technical leadership positions. He built for corporates and for global brands. Covid wiped out half the business overnight, but he rebuilt again, this time adding virtual reality engineering to his skillset. He created expansive VR worlds for DreamWorks Animation, tested by his own young children who navigated them with natural ease.

It was through this unexpected route, VR, entertainment, online communities, that blockchain entered his world. Clients wanted NFT galleries. He began integrating payment rails and token infrastructure, working alongside specialised Web3 teams. The more he learned, the more the architecture of decentralised systems appealed to him: the combination of transparency and control, but also the possibility of protecting users rather than exploiting them.

His transition into Web3 accelerated with Wonder, where he became CTO and led the development of social applications built around privacy and user protection. But it was his longstanding concern for data exploitation that shaped his next move.

“I love big tech, but I also hate big tech because they exploit us,” he says. “I hate the way our data is just given everywhere, and no one pays attention to the rules.”

This is the context in which Entry found him. The founders were exploring a shift into blockchain, AI, and token infrastructure, and Brennan’s expertise in privacy, zero-knowledge proof systems, and decentralised identity caught their attention. They brought him into early discussions, and he began to see alignment between his concerns and their intentions. “You’re doing things I really care about,” he told them.

By then, digital identity had become a central global issue. Governments worldwide were moving toward centralised digital IDs. As he describes it, the risk is obvious: a single database holding biometric data, document scans, and personal information becomes a prime target. “A huge attack surface,” he says. “Once it’s adopted at scale, it becomes an even bigger target.”

Entry’s alternative is fundamentally different. The Entry ID system Brennan designed keeps all sensitive information encrypted on the user’s own device. Nothing is stored centrally. KYC is handled by an accredited third party, and only a cryptographic attestation, not the data itself, is shared.

“We never see it. It never goes in our hands,” he explains. “There is no central store of your personal information.”

It is a decentralised ID that allows validation without exposure. A way to comply with regulation without handing over data. A structure that protects the consumer while satisfying the institution. For Brennan, this is not an academic debate; it is a deeply personal one. He speaks plainly: freedoms taken for granted by older generations may not be guaranteed for the next. Overreach worries him. Centralisation worries him. Exposure worries him. Entry ID, he believes, offers choice at a time when choice is narrowing.

Running parallel to this identity framework is Entry’s federated AI architecture, another of Brennan’s passions. He explains it simply: a central model supported by many smaller local models, each processing its own data and contributing learnings to the whole. “The sum of all these parts becomes the important structure,” he says.

The innovation lies in combining public data with private institutional knowledge without exposing either. Entry distributes containerised models to organisations, allowing them to train locally on their own data. Only the aggregated learning, never the raw information, is returned to the central model. Contributors are rewarded through Entry’s token system and can use those tokens to consume AI services.

For the end user, whether a bank assessing the provenance of an asset, a regulator reviewing compliance data, or a marketplace verifying risk, this creates an unparalleled intelligence layer. “You want to buy a tokenised asset, an NFT, anything. Our AI will tell you whether it’s safe or not.”

It is a pragmatic approach, not a speculative one: using federated models, zero-knowledge proofs, encryption, and decentralised storage to build trust in environments where trust is scarce.

Brennan’s commitment to security is uncompromising. If anything, his instinct is to over-engineer protections rather than risk under-building them. Entry, he says, shares that view.

“You can’t be overkill when it comes to people’s privacy.” The project’s ambition is not theatrical. It is methodical, built for resilience rather than hype.

And that suits him. He is not interested in shortcuts. His motivation has remained unchanged since he was a child assembling computers on his bedroom floor: he builds things because they matter, because they solve real problems, and because the work itself has value.

“I don’t build stuff for money,” he says. “I build stuff because I care about it. I build stuff because I genuinely care.”

For Entry, that is more than a leadership style. It is the foundation of the technology itself, a system grounded in privacy, compliance, and possibility, shaped by someone who understands both how to build and why it must be built.
