Disney is setting its sights on the future of digital collectibles by partnering with blockchain and metaverse company Dapper Labs to launch a non-fungible token (NFT) platform.
In a groundbreaking move announced on November 14, Disney revealed its plans to tokenize beloved cartoon characters spanning a century of entertainment history, bringing them to life on its NFT marketplace named Disney Pinnacle.

The platform is not limited to classic characters, as it will also feature icons from Pixar and characters from the expansive Star Wars universe. These digital representations will take the form of unique, collectible pins, offering fans a novel way to engage with their favorite characters.
Dapper Labs CEO Roham Gharegozlou emphasized the global accessibility of the platform, stating, “Fans anywhere will be able to collect dynamic pins on their phone and trade instantly and securely with each other no matter where they are in the world.”
Scheduled to launch later this year, Disney Pinnacle will be available on major app stores, including the Apple App Store for iOS and the Google Play Store for Android.
The platform will also have a web version. Currently, interested users can join a waitlist, and a landing site has been set up on its official page. Notably, Disney Pinnacle is built on the layer-1 blockchain Flow, a creation of Dapper Labs. This blockchain has previously been used by Ticketmaster for minting NFT event tickets.
This move by Disney into the NFT space signifies a strategic shift towards the future of digital collectibles, highlighting the company’s commitment to staying at the forefront of technological advancements.
Dapper Labs, founded in Vancouver, Canada in 2018, has been making waves in the NFT space, with notable projects like CryptoKitties and NBA Top Shot. Despite facing staff layoffs earlier in the year, the company continues to draw attention and investment, receiving $15 million from Hong Kong Web3 creator Animoca Brands.
As the NFT landscape evolves, Disney’s collaboration with Dapper Labs positions both companies to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of digital collectibles.
