Binance Labs pours $3.15M into Open Campus, can this EdTech start up unlock a new wave of users?

Education and gaming have been positioned as two key pillars for the future adoption of Web3 technologies. Without education adoption will remain low as real world use cases for blockchains are explored. Gamers are already familiar with virtual economies, they just havent been the main beneficiaries of their time spent playing the games.

Today it was announced that Binance Labs, the venture capital arm of Binance, has injected $3.15 million into Open Campus, a Web3 education platform.

Yat Siu, Co-Founder of Animoca Brands and Open Campus Council Member, emphasized the platform’s mission to decentralize education and support educators. Siu expressed excitement about Binance Labs’ involvement on X:

Publisher NFTs to empower content creators

Open Campus empowers content creators by tokenizing educational content, allowing them to monetize their contributions. The strategic investment aims to drive Web3 adoption by introducing Publisher NFTs, helping content creators to earn more and encouraging collaborations.

Yi He, Co-Founder of Binance and Head of Binance Labs, expressed enthusiasm, stating, “Open Campus motivates the production of high-quality educational content by applying Web3 tokenomics and technology to education. The education industry, with its high potential, stands out as a key sector for onboarding users onto Web3.”

TinyTap, a pioneering EdTech subsidiary of Animoca Brands, became the inaugural adopter of Open Campus. As a top-grossing kids’ mobile application, TinyTap boasts over 10 million families. Collaborating with Open Campus, the platform launched a climate change initiative with Care Bears, featuring educational content and Publisher NFTs.

Through early adopters like TinyTap, Open Campus aims to provide on-ramp services, including wallets, token payments, and incentives, to propel Web3 adoption forward.

Open Campus introduces Smart Donations, facilitating grants and scholarships powered by its native token, $EDU, released on measurable on-chain events. The platform’s latest initiative, the Global Educators Fund, in collaboration with Animoca Brands, offers a $10 million incentive for educators to create content published on Open Campus partners.

With NFT ownership models, digital assets have become a very lucrative source of income for some content creators. Investing in education to help all online communities understand these new business models may play a key part in the future of gaming. However, education across blockchain protocols to date has had little effect on the slow pace of adoption.
