1. Confidential Computing: Can you explain why confidential computing is crucial for today’s digital ecosystem, and what specific challenges it aims to address in data security and user privacy?
Confidential Computing is a crucial piece of the future infrastructure, both in Web2 and Web3. Data protection and confidentiality is a growing concern among users and businesses alike – nobody wants their data to leak or to be monetized by 3rd parties without consent.
Confidential Computing helps relieve those concerns by guaranteeing that the information is protected on all stages and that the user has full sovereignty over their data and information. It also simplifies adoption of cloud computing, including decentralized cloud, providing assurance that even the cloud operators can’t access sensitive data.
The main challenge addressed by confidential computing is the user’s concerns about the security of their data and their willingness to share that data. There are multiple risks – risks of data exposure, risks of access to sensitive data by malicious insiders, risk of the users’ data being sold or otherwise monetized by service providers, and more. With proliferation of AI applications, and with more and more sensitive data being shared with AI models, those risks become even more pronounced and troubling.
Confidential Computing guarantees that data remains protected at all stages and under user control, addressing risks like unauthorized access, insider threats, and monetization without consent. With AI increasingly reliant on sensitive data, this technology ensures data can be shared and used securely, without compromising user intentions or privacy.
2. Role and Responsibilities: As CEO of Secret Labs, what are your primary responsibilities, and how do you see your role evolving as the company and the field of confidential computing advance?
Secret Labs is the organization supporting and maintaining Secret Network. Our main mission is to find ways to make the network stronger, more useful, and up-to-speed with latest technological developments.
As CEO, I craft and communicate our technology strategy, oversee its execution, and guide day-to-day operations. With Confidential Computing expanding into AI, we’ve launched Claive, an initiative blending these domains. The intersection of AI and Confidential Computing is rapidly advancing, requiring us to adapt continuously. This evolution enhances our mission and positions us at the forefront of innovation
3. Vision for Secret Labs: What is your long-term vision for Secret Labs, and how do you see it contributing to the future of secure, privacy-first applications in both Web2 and Web3?
Secret Labs will continue to be on the forefront of confidential computing. We will continue developing Secret Network as the Layer 1 blockchain for confidential computing, and build additional infrastructure on top of it. Our long-term vision is to create an end-to-end confidential computing environment for many applications, first and foremost for AI.
4. Confidential Computing & Web3: How does confidential computing align with Web3 principles, and how do you see Secret Labs pushing the boundaries of secure, decentralized applications through this technology?
I’ve been saying it for a long time – Web3 cannot really fulfill its mission and stand up to the dream of bringing hundreds of millions of users on-chain and replacing the existing Web2 paradigms and infrastructures without protecting user data. Originally, the Web3 technologies sacrificed data protection in favor of the permissionless and decentralized nature of the technology. However, with the development of Confidential Computing technology, it is now possible to add data protection while keeping the permissionless and decentralized nature of the Web. There is thus a full alignment between Confidential Computing and Web3. By utilizing and expanding our Confidential Computing capabilities, we are pioneering the Web3 ecosystem.
5. Joining the Secret Network Foundation Board: What motivated you to join the board of the Secret Network Foundation, and what unique perspective or expertise do you hope to bring to the organization?
Establishing an independent Secret Network Foundation Board was a significant milestone in strengthening our ecosystem. It was an honor for me to join the Board and work together with visionary people like Sandy, Megan and of course Lisa. My focus is on guiding the strategy from a technological perspective and identifying innovative product and partnership opportunities.
6. Future Goals for Secret Network: What are your goals for Secret Network as it matures, and how would you like to see it impact the broader Web3 ecosystem and beyond?
Our goals for 2025 are twofold:
- Strengthening our existing Layer1 chain by making it more scalable and more developer-friendly
and
- Developing Claive – our end-to-end confidential AI offering.
I believe that Secret will continue to influence the overall ecosystem by evangelizing Confidential Computing and privacy, forging partnerships and collaborating on projects with other chains and applications. We are also continuing to be actively involved in the DeCC alliance with other like-minded organizations.
7. User Benefits and Adoption: What do you believe are the key benefits of confidential computing for end users, and how do you plan to drive adoption for privacy-preserving technology among developers and businesses alike?
My claim is simple – mass adoption requires confidentiality. Nobody wants to live in a glass house, and neither users nor businesses will want to use Web3 in a meaningful way without knowing that their data is being protected. In the coming year the Secret ecosystem will continue to drive adoption by offering privacy-preserving Web3 applications, especially in the AI space.
