Anyone working in the blockchain industry knows it mad, bad and craaazy. It’s like traditional fintech on steriods. However, along with the energy and passion, there is also an increased realisation that we need a return to people-power, to work-life balance, and to being the best person that you can possibly be.
So on this Monday morning, often the toughest day of the week to motivate oneself, we are sharing 6 top life hacks from Ben Palmer. Warning some of these include freezing cold water. Warning some of these I have tried out. Warning this article may make your day better.
Ben’s 6 Life Hacks
Ben Palmer, Blockchain and Emerging Tech Talent Agent & Community Builder at IJB Global, is interested in simple life hacks that compound marginal gains into really moving my life forward, feeling balanced and trying to become the best version of himself. Though research and self-experimentation he has layered the following morning routine (some approaches could be viewed as slightly controversial and certainly challenged his mindset when he was initially introduced to them.)
Life hack No 1 – Making the bed

Life Hack No 2 – Gratitude
Every day I give a gratitude prayer for everything amazing in my life (partner, kids, family, friends etc). It is too easy to forgot all the good stuff we already have and a reminder to live in the present.
Ed – This is especially effective if done in advance. By that I suggest, by all means reflect on your previous day and be grateful, but also look to the coming day and be grateful in advance. This is powerful stuff.
Life Hack No 3 – Cold Showers
Cold Showers: these are not as bad as it sounds, I have a warm shower first, and then for the last 10 seconds to 2 minutes I turn the temperature to the lowest setting. My mantra is “it’s only my skin that is cold”. This really helps get through it. It’s addictive after a week or so of doing it.
Benefits include: builds will power, trains nervous system to be more resilient to stress, increased alertness’s, promotes fat loss, improves hair/skin & offers relief for depression:
Ed – I have been recruited to this regime as well and find that I no longer mind the cold at the end – indeed I look forward to it. I have also taken part in a number of Irish Sea swims recently and found that I was easily able to enter the cold water. In fact, only last Saturday I took part in a charity skinny dip in the very cold Irish sea for a children’s cancer charity and found it relatively easy to stride into the sea. Life Hack No 4 – breathing
Rounds of breathing following the Wim Hof method. Deep breath in through the nose and out through the nose, 30-40 repetitions with 4-5 sets, holding the breath for as long as a possible in-between sets. Following this method I was able to hold my breath for around 3 minutes. Benefits include reduced stress, faster recovery from physical exertion, better sleep, more focus and mental clarity.

Life Hack No 5 – Transcendental Meditation
I practice transcendental meditation for 20 minutes twice a day. Benefits include improved sleep, reduction in stress, greater sense of clarity and productivity. Life Hack No 6 – Intermittent Fasting
